Spring Forward and jump ahead are common terms for daylight savings time. Sunday we will move our clocks 1 hour ahead. The terms “spring forward” and “fall back” are used to describe a practice of changing standard time with the intention of “saving” (as in, making better use of) natural light. During daylight savings time (DST), clocks are turned ahead one hour, so that the sun rises later in the morning and sets later in the evening. Are you ready to spring forward???

If you think mites are inactive in the winter months that is incorrect. Winter mites are active starting as early as November and stay active through March in Colorado. They are doubly frustrating, their activity is difficult to see day to day however their damage creates quite an eye sore as winter turns to spring.

Newsletter: December 2024

Santa is not the only one with a checklist in December. We often think that just because many of our trees, shrubs, and turf have gone dormmate for the winter we can as well. That is not correct, landscape maintenance is a year-round task in Colorado. From wrapping trees, winter watering, maintaining walkways, rejuvenation prunes, as well as repairing and adding new hardscapes. Wintertime is when we start setting the stage for Spring. Oh, did I forget to mention designing your annual color beds…. All this in only a few short months.

Newsletter: Noveber 2024

Leaves are falling and being removed from properties, but did you know they are a valuable resource in the landscape? They are a source of organic matter and can be mulched into lawns with mowers, used in planters, containers, and gardens as soil amendment, mulch or create compost. Mulching them into lawns can benefit the turf as well as the soil and could potentially even mitigate the need for additional fertilizer. The additional mulching can also help soil moisture and reduce weeds by creating a thin layer of mulch on the soil surface. Who knew that falling leaves had so many beneficial uses within the landscape? So, while they are messy, they also help add value to the lifespan of your landscape.
